Artist Statement Patrica A.L. Ehrensal is a Philadelphia area self-taught photographer. My primary interest is in making abstract architectural images. In my previous career my scholarship drew upon the theories of Foucault, which I have brought to my photography. I am an artist member of 3rd Street Gallery in Philadelphia. Additionally, I have also exhibited in juried shows both in Philadelphia and internationally. As an organization theorist my research has focused on how social and physical structures shape and limit human agency. That interest in structure has carried over into my photography, which focuses on the structures of ancient and modern buildings, bridges, marketplaces, and landscapes. I am particularly interested in how these structures shape our interaction with them, evoking power, admiration, desire, nostalgia, imaginaries, and playfulness.
